What makes me different…
What makes me different from my competitors is how I look after my couple, their families and friends create story telling in my images, capturing the journey of the couples day from getting ready to the first dance and beyond. My photography often captures hilarity, moments the couple miss of their guests chatting whilst they go through their day. I am a tall bloke, I have presence which I use to my advantage in organising large groups of guests without the need for a second photographer. I am organised without being dominant or bossy and am polite at all times.
I have vast experience across a broad spectrum of the photographic industry my style is diverse as I use techniques I have used on different jobs and apply them to the weddings I shoot.
I feel like I have a style which is slightly different from what is ‘expected’ from traditional wedding photographer, but giving people a range of images which capture fun, laughter, excitement, anxiousness and love.
From the moment I have a booking from a couple I make sure we meet (if possible – rarely not possible) and chat through the day one on one basis.
This means you get to learn a lot about the couple generally as opposed to just learning about their wedding day. I learn about the approach they would like me to take, if they want reportage or staged images, lots of groups or more storytelling as their day unfolds.
I also make sure I maintain contact and prior to the day I have a group shot list provided by the couple (line-ups post ceremony) and the day itinerary so all aspects of their day have the best opportunity to work to time. This way my couple know they are in safe organised hands with someone who cares very much that their day runs with great success.
Being completely relaxed and not flustered or frustrated with the couple or guests in any way ensures everything is completed without making them feel like they were having pictures done the whole day.
Making it about the couple and not about what you need to gain ensures for cooperation from guests more. This feeling of ease is key to gaining what is required and expected by gaining trust without it being too strenuous on the people being photographed, or taking up too much of their time.
From meeting the couple and them deciding to book you as their photographer – communication is the most important thing. Everyone is different but some people need to contact you and ask many questions and it’s important to reply to them in a timely fashion. I even responded to questions when we were on our family holiday in Bali last year. I treat each couple like they are my only wedding as their day as so very important to me.
Others however don’t contact me from the day they book until the week prior to their wedding or even until the last moment. I touch base and check in with them also to make sure the couple have complete faith in me on the day and that I have all the information required to not miss a thing.
It just means the pressure is taken away from the couple and they feel that the photographic side of the wedding planning is taken care of.
